Poison series: The magic mineral: Asbestos

Asbestos. One that (hopefully) won't give me stomach aches! *Looks at the ill-fated Phosphorus article*

This guy is actually one of many poisonous suckers, all of which have complicated names! So, for the sake of my sanity, (and my poor Grammarly's autocorrect) I'll write them out once, but then use their color names.

CHRYSOTILE- White Asbestos. Most commonly found in cement, brake pads/linings, and roof materials. Can be found in popcorn roofing.

AMOSITE- Brown Asbestos. Most commonly found in plumbing insulation, cement sheet, and electrical insulation. Although all of these guys can cause lung cancer, this one is probably the most cancerous out of them all.

CROCIDOLITE- Blue Asbestos. Most commonly found in the insulation of engines, spray-on coatings, pipe insulation, and cement. This guy is extremely tiny and extremely easy to breathe in.

Asbestos is not easy to tell you to have it, and if you do, a lot of times, it's too late. Asbestos can give you lung cancer, and asbestosis, among a bunch of other diseases.

Now, this one isn't like your typical poison. It has a latency period of 10 to 50 years. The poisoning symptoms include:

Shortness of breath, a persistent dry cough, chest tightness or pain, dry and cracking noises when you inhale, and fingertips and toes that seem wider and rounder than usual (clubbing)

There is no cure for asbestosis. You're likely to have it until you die. Sad.
