A brief overview of the Disney story

Walt Disney, now that's a household name. The man who created a multi-million-dollar empire.

Walt Disney came to California in 1923 filled with big dreams and... That's it. He had no money, but he did have his brother, Roy O. Disney who was extremely sympathetic to his younger brother. He eventually came to his aid. Pooling together their money, they came up with 250 dollars and had to borrow 500 to get them off the ground. In their uncle's basement, with scrappy drawing materials and determination, they created their first cartoon... Alice comedies.

A good while later, Walt and Roy decided to create a new cartoon, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. He made twenty-six Oswald cartoons teamed up with Hyperion Studio. Things were going pretty well... But he made one single fatal error that defined his carrier; He didn't read the contract well enough.

Along with Oswald, Hyperion Studio took half his animators behind Walt's back.

Not one to give up, Walt didn't let something like that ruin his dream. In fact, he teamed up with his friend Ub Iwerks to create the one... The only... Mickey mouse! Mickey starred in his first cartoon in May of 1928, Plane crazy.

And he's still going strong today, still starring in shorts. But now, he has several shows and several theme parks. He has gone a long way since his first cartoon way back in the 20s
